Shadrack and The Flowers (575 euros)
Oil & Acrylic on canvas, 60 x 108cm
Framed reproductions also available
Shadrack's pose is one of sadness, reflecting the absolute desperation felt by the people living in Zimbabwe today.
In the shadow are hand-prints, the symbol of the Opposition Party, the MDC (Movement for Democratic Change, as opposed to the clenched fist being the symbol of ZANU - PF, the current ruling party).
The hand-prints are in the shadow, like the whispers of protest, for fear of being tortured or being killed along with ones family, for not supporting the government.
This is contrasted by the bright colours, the cloth Shadrack wears and the flowers, these represent the abundance of talent and creativity of the people and of the natural beauty, resources and potential found in the country.
The shadow is on the ground, "down to earth", real feelings...... whereas the flowers above are much like the flowery words used by the current ruling party to reassure the outside world and their own people that they are doing no harm.
